I decided to switch to this blog when I want to post something not about my marriage.
This post is about the FCKH8 youtube video that I was recently sent to watch. Now I'm going to make a comment about gay/lesbians and my thoughts.
Our church has always stated that marriage is between a man and woman. I agree. And I will uphold that standard all day everyday. However, our church has never stated that it is okay to hate on those that are homosexual. It's as simple as that. I do not believe that people are born gay. I do believe that they are born with tendencies to be that way. I do believe that it is their trial in life that they have to overcome. I do not agree with people teasing, abusing and causing harm to those who are homosexual. I may not agree with their decisions, but I love them. In fact, one of my good friends in high school is gay. He and I could talk about anything. I will uphold that MARRIAGE is between man and woman. The term. The definition. If someone who is homosexual wants insurance with their partner, then be my guest. If they want all the perks that married couples get, then I have no issue with that, and I actually understand. Call it a partnership. Don't call it a marriage.
I love my church. It's perfect. The people however, are not. We do have quite a few who are judgmental and forget how to be Christlike. Christ didn't agree with how others lived their lives, but never once did he hate. Never once did he ever turn someone away. He never hated. That is how we should be. You can live the LDS religion without hating on those who have different beliefs then you do.
Another thing however, is that people need to understand that proposition 8 is NOT about hating on gays. It is not about discrimination. It is about upholding the true definition of marriage. I understand that I can't make everyone believe the way I do. I can however attempt to keep the definition of marriage while still understanding why those in partnerships want the same perks. Our human race needs to learn to be tolerant of those who do not live or believe the way we do. They were raised to believe that way. Just as we were raised to believe the way they do. That doesn't make them WRONG. They are standing up for what they believe in. Let's kill the hate; We all bleed red. (Although I don't agree with that video I saw on youtube either. Since when is it okay for a 5 years old to say the "F" word?)
EVERYONE is a Child of God and must be treated equally.
